Yesterday I wrote a blog post dedicated to oldschool bodybuilding. While I was collecting information I saw a very inspiring interview of Tom Platz - the Golden Eagle.
Basically almost every single word was "golden" but the words that got my attention the most were:
"Uncomfortable is when you grow."
Looking back in my life I can't argue that this is true. I remember the first time I went to the gym. I was nervous, embarrassed and definitely uncomfortable. I remember the first time I went to do local skate park when I wasn't even able to do a kickflip. It was all very uncomfortable but it did help me grow in every sense of the word.
If you think of it when you go to the gym and beat up your muscles they feel uncomfortable and terribly unhappy BUT that's how you grow. The same principle applies to life. You have to do things that involve a certain risk without knowing what will happen. That's what Platz did and I truly believe that's why he went so far - he was afraid but still he managed to follow the dream of his life despite the uncomfortable feelings and moments.
Another moment that got my attention was his opinion on steroids. Today everybody tries to diminish the accomplishment of successful athletes by saying " But they are taking D-bol." Just watch any video on YouTube with remarkable feat of strength and then read the comments.
Like Platz says:
"No drug, no steroid makes you a superstar." I truly believe that. It seems to be much harder to succeed and if it was that easy everybody with enough money to buy a drug would be a champion. As you know that's not the case.
